The Art Of Homepage Seduction
May 4, 2009
First tip: Get rid of your ‘welcome to my homepage’ that we see time and time again. You are inevitably going to land on the homepage of a site, so your visitors don’t need to be told that. The homepage of your site needs to contain more important information than a welcoming coupled with a history of your company. Ask yourself why someone has chosen to visit your page, what are they looking for, what problem are they seeking to solve? It is imperative that your site conveys to your visitors that you have the answers, the info, the remedy that they need.
You have about 3 seconds to make your first impression, so you need to grab them instantly. Impress upon them that you are different and that they should do business with you instead of your competitor. Also, it’s important to not only convey what your business is about, but what your website is all about as well. Make sure the info they seek is readily available and that your site is easily navigable. What information do you have and where can they find it?
Put yourself in your consumers’ shoes. It goes with any marketing strategy to take a step back and look at your site and homepage as objectively as possible. Would you like your own site if you just saw it for the first time?
The Importance Of Keywords In Internet Marketing
April 15, 2009
Using article marketing is a great way to promote your website or advertising campaign. If you’re not doing this, you should be. One very important marketing strategy that a lot of people either don’t know about or fail to administer is keyword density and placement. To learn more about article marketing click here.
Keywords are words or phrases that trigger the search engines when a consumer is surfing the web and searching various services or products. So then, you need to have keywords in your article so that you are among the sites listed when someone goes searching. There are spiders, which are like robots, that will come and evaluate your site or blog for content every time you post, ping or publish. If the spider recognizes that you have certain keywords placed in your article, it will determine the usefulness of your site to users who search for that particular keyword. Get it? For help on choosing keywords for your article, I have found the Google Adwords keyword tool to be quite helpful, so start there to get some good ideas to enrich your content.
Now, having said this, I must warn you that there is such a thing as ‘keyword stuffing’. This would be overuse of keywords in your article, hoping the spiders will come and rank your site or article higher for having more keywords. This is not true, the spiders are wise, and will detect this technique very quickly. The consequences could potentially be penalizing your site and associated pages by ranking it lower.
It might seem like a fine line, but if your using unique, original and most of all relevant content, it really shouldn’t be a problem to use keywords enough, but not too much.
Some webmasters will use keyword density as a percentage. For example, they have had success using keywords 25 times in a 500 word article. Their density is 5%. You’ll need to determine your own keyword density for your success. What works for some, may not work for others. Just remember not to over-optimize your site or article.
Right then, you have some keywords you want to use to promote your article or site…so where’s the best place to put them? Well, some popular logic is to have your density higher at the beginning and end of your article, producing what is called an ‘hourglass effect’. This method has proved to produce a rise in the search engine results, after all, we need to make the spiders happy to see any sort of internet marketing success.
Blog Your Way To Better Business
March 30, 2009
If you’re looking for a way to help promote your online business, try using blogs. A blog is short for ‘weblog’, which is just a mini website. People who blog are called ‘bloggers’, and they post content onto the ‘blogosphere’. Let’s see how many more times I can say ‘blog’ in one paragraph….haha!
Right, moving on then. Bloggers can post anything they want; thoughts, activities, personal experiences in life, advice. A blog can be kind of an internet journal or diary. Over the course of time, the use of blogs has expanded into any kind of self-expression, and can help promote your online enterprise. How? Simply, the blogosphere is a vast community of bloggers, and has a way of welcoming, identifying, and building the reputation of new bloggers and their blogs posted on the web.
It is important to follow the blogosphere rules, to maintain your good standing, and have a positively-contributing blog and not a ’splog’. A splog is a spam blog, and they are recognized and dismissed quickly, due to too much advertising and not enough relevant content. Don’t try to sell products, just open the forum to discussion and speculation on products.
Assuming your goal is to build a solid reputation for your enterprise, then adhere to topics that will curtail any negative feedback – remember, anyone will be able to comment on your post and negative comments will obviously hurt you. You should be ready to defend and address any questions or comments. Not reacting at all, will imply a negative reaction from you.
If you achieve that stellar reputation for your blogging, then you have created successful search engine optimization (SEO) for your business website. Maybe your posts are good enough to have a top page-ranking in search engines…how would that be? Great! Remember, blogging should be fun, stick to the rules, which are not rigid or difficult to adhere to, and write about things you like. Posting often is a good idea to build your reputation, and be patient…it does take time, but it works!
